What to Expect at Your Senior Photo Session

How to Prepare

Planning for a senior photo session is a milestone event that captures a pivotal moment in your life. This guide will walk you through what to expect during your senior session, offer tips on what to wear, and help you choose the perfect location. Your involvement in this process will ensure that these memories are captured exactly as you envision them.

Making the Session Yours

Your senior photo session is about you, but we want to ensure your parents get a few shots they'll treasure. This session marks an important transition, and your participation is sooo essential to capturing your unique perspective and personality. These moments will be cherished forever.

Feeling a bit nervous? That's completely normal. Just be yourself, arrive well-rested, and on time.

What to Anticipate

During the session, don't worry about not knowing what to do. I'll guide you every step of the way. With my experience, I'll ensure you look your best in every shot. While it's natural to look at the camera and smile, I encourage you to look away or engage in activities. We'll dance, chat, walk, act, and laugh. You'll be so immersed in the experience that you might forget you're being photographed.

Feel free to express yourself however you like until I give specific instructions. Whether you want to be playful or serious, there's no right or wrong way. Just be yourself and let your unique personality shine through. I aim to make you feel comfortable and authentic in front of the lens.

Timing is Everything

Consider the time of day, weather, and season when scheduling your senior shoot. Lighting is crucial for stunning photos. While midday sun is totally doable for outdoor shoots (but comes with its own vibe and potential downsides), the best times are early morning, just after sunrise, or about an hour before sunset.

If you have a specific time of day in mind, let's discuss it. We should also have backup plans for outdoor shoots in lousy weather. Whether we reschedule, brave the elements, or find an alternative location, the choice is yours.

For inclement weather:

- Bring an umbrella—and/or a raincoat/boots.

- Dress in layers appropriate for the weather.

- Bring a change of clothes in case of rain followed by sunshine during the session.

Considering the seasons is also crucial. Each season offers something unique, from winter's fresh snow to the vibrant colors of autumn. I recommend scheduling your session at least four months before you need to print photos for graduation invitations. This gives ample time for selections, edits, designs, printing, and delivery.

This is Your Moment

This is Your Moment. You should have received a "Get to Know You" questionnaire from me to kick-start our connection. Please fill it out. I'm interested in learning more about you, your aspirations after high school, what keeps you up at night, and even your favorite pizza toppings. This questionnaire is not just a formality; it's a tool that helps me better understand who you are, which in turn helps me capture your authentic self. Feel free to ask me questions, too— it's only fair.

Finding the Perfect Location

Locations are more than just backdrops; they significantly influence your session's visuals, mood, and mindset. Your feelings at home will differ from those while walking a busy city street or standing on a rugged cliff overlooking the Potomac. We'll discuss what you envision for your session and come up with a list of possible locations together. Remember, the choice of location is entirely up to you, and I'm here to guide you through the process.

What to Wear

Choosing the right outfits is essential for your senior session. Here are some tips to help you decide:

Be Yourself: Wear something that reflects your personality. Whether casual or formal, make sure you feel comfortable and confident.

Variety: Bring a few different outfits to give your photos a range of looks. Consider casual wear, something more formal, and an outfit that showcases your hobbies or interests.

Colors and Patterns: Solid colors and simple patterns usually photograph well. Avoid overly busy prints that can distract from your face.

Accessories: Accessories can add a personal touch to your outfits. Think hats, scarves, jewelry, or even a favorite book or instrument.

Footwear: Shoes matter too! Make sure they complement your outfits and are suitable for the locations we'll be visiting.

Weather Appropriate: Dress in layers if the weather is unpredictable. Bring options that you can easily change into if needed.

Remember, the goal is to capture your true self, so wear what makes you feel most like you.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need more information. I'm here to help make your senior photo session an unforgettable experience. Don't hesitate to ask anything that's on your mind. Your confidence in the process is important to me.
